GAME pre-order customers left in limbo, as Metaphor and Silent Hill 2 launches loom

A month on from Eurogamer’s previous report, GAME customers say they are still waiting to receive games they paid to pre-order, without the ability to cancel these orders online.

Eurogamer continues to be contacted by customers who handed over money for games due to launch weeks ago that are still waiting to receive their orders.

And now, with the autumn season of big game launches set to kick off properly with Silent Hill 2 and Metaphor ReFantazio, there’s concern that pre-orders for these games will also fail to materialise.

GAME customers tell Eurogamer that questions about outstanding pre-orders – some now more than a month late – are falling on deaf ears, with queries to the brand’s customer support on social media and its website going unanswered.

Amazon's Fallout series passes impressive viewer milestone after six months

In not quite six months since Fallout first burst its unapologetically bloody way onto our screens, the show has passed an impressive milestone.
As shared on the Fallout social media account, Amazon’s adaptation has now been watched by 100 million viewers worldwide.
To put this figure into more context, Fallout is the only other show on Amazon Prime to cross the 100 million viewer threshold, the other being Rings of Power. The first season of The Rings of Power has, at the time of writing, reached over 150 million viewers worldwide since its debut, but with a much larger production budget.

Microsoft's HoloLens mixed reality headset officially being discontinued

Microsoft has confirmed it’s discontinuing its HoloLens line of mixed reality headsets, with production now ceased and software support on HoloLens 2 ending in December 2027.

HoloLens launched in its original form back in 2016, offering a $3,000 USD mixed reality experience that built on at least some of the technology featured in Microsoft’s Kinect accessory for Xbox. It’s perhaps best remembered in gaming circles for the striking (albeit never ultimately released) Minecraft demo shown ahead of its launch in 2015.

Microsoft’s first HoloLens was surpassed by the $3,500 HoloLens 2 in 2019, and while the line-up never saw a consumer device, it did make inroads in enterprise usage, including healthcare, manufacturing, and education. Microsoft also signed a $479m…

Nintendo Switch 2 designs posted by 3D model enthusiast, setting internet's tongues wagging

Nintendo fans are frothing over freshly-posted images purporting to show the under-wraps Switch 2. The pictures include apparent 3D models of the console and its Joy-Con, as well as photos of the console’s shell – including its circuit board.

In general, the images depict a console almost identical to the current Switch, albeit with a larger screen size and what look to be magnets on the sides of its Joy-Con.

These details match with previous publicly-reported details of Switch 2, but do little to verify the images themselves. Indeed, doubt has been poured over the pictures – originally posted to a Chinese social media site then shared more widely via reddit – since it was discovered the original poster was a 3D design and model enthusiast.

A decade after ditching Xbox friend requests, Microsoft is bringing them back

Microsoft has announced it’s bringing friend requests back to Xbox after more than a decade, with its new “friends and followers experience” set to go live for Insiders this week.

Xbox hasn’t had friend requests since 2013, when – as part of its transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One – Microsoft introduced a social-media-style system making it possible to follow activity feeds without the need for explicit approval. If the other party reciprocates, a follower becomes a friend, so both can chat, message, and game.

Soon, though, Xbox will introduce a more traditional “two-way, invite-approved” friend request system that Microsoft says will give users “more control and flexibility”. This’ll sit alongside the existing “one-way” follower system, so users can still e…

Shinji Mikami thought Tango Gameworks would be safe from closure if it made more Hi-Fi Rush games

Shinji Mikami thought Tango Gameworks would be safe from closure “as long as they continued to make Hi-Fi Rush games”.
Mikami, who spoke to IGN alongside Suda 51, was the founder of Tango Gameworks but left in February 2023. The studio was then closed by Microsoft earlier this year, before being acquired by PUBG publisher Krafton last month.
“I had thought the studio would be safe as long as they continued to make Hi-Fi Rush games,” said Mikami. “That’s one of the reasons I left Tango Gameworks. So I was surprised when the studio was closed down.”
